Help Name this movie.?

It's old around 40-60s I think, it might star James Stewart. It's about a man who is diagnosed with a terminal disease, he is given a new drug to try to combat it but it is revealed the consequences are mood swings as he becomes addicted and eventually attempts to kill his son like that guy in the bible tried to do before god stopped it. Bollocks.
