Is it true you should never let your dog walk in front of you?

No they are not. Dogs live for commands by there owner. No one should own an unmanagable dog, They are not good for society. The dog whisperer is great. You should definetly never let him in front of you, because then you will not be leader of the pack anymore. Also if the dog is allowed on the couch sometimes, he will think he is always allowed on the couch. Smoetimes is never okay. Stay consistant.
